This class covers the specific workings of the editing program . Students learn how to deal with basic transitions (hard cuts, dissolves, and wipes), how to adjust and change edits, and how to work with audio (together and independent of the visuals). Students also learn how to work with titling and basic graphics. This class provides a general grounding in nonlinear editing and in the specifics of Final Cut Pro.

The Creative Side of Editing For Digital Video and Film

CSE-A: Saturday, June 28, 2008 10am-4pm
CSE-B: Saturday, November 1, 2008 10am-4pm

Instructor: David Shulman
Tuition: $145.00

This intensive one-day seminar concentrates on The Creative Side of Editing. Whether you're editing digital video or film, you'll want to have a solid understanding of editing theory under your belt . You'll learn how to edit dialogue, how to cut to music and how to use sound effects and voice-over. We'll look at documentary film and the particular challenges that arise when you're working with both visual material and on-camera interviews. We'll analyze clips from ads, music videos, and feature films, including dialogue and action scenes. We'll also spotlight the following questions: What makes a good edit? What makes a good structure for a piece? How do you even decide where to make your first edit? And last but not least, how do you know when you're done? Take this seminar by itself or combine it with Editing with Final Cut Pro.

The Art of Foley Recording

AFR-A: Saturday, April 19, 2008 8am-5pm
AFR-B: Saturday, November 15, 2008 8am-5pm

Instructor: Doug Reed
Tuition: $225.00

Whether it's the shattering of a huge plate glass window or the creeping of slippers across a wooden floor that we take for granted when we watch a film, the reality is that someone has actually created those sound effects. On films and television shows, even sounds that are originally recorded on the set are totally recreated and enhanced by a Foley artist. THE ART OF FOLEY RECORDING, taught by Doug Reed, a long-time Los Angeles Foley artist, provides an overview of the Foley process culminating an in-class Foley re-creation of a well-known scene from a feature-length movie. Class participants will be able to apply what they've learned to their own projects and bring their work to a whole new level.
