About SFI
Mission Statement
Seattle Film Institute is a single-purpose, proprietary institution providing education in all aspects of filmmaking, including producing, production, screenwriting and cinema studies. The mission statement of SFI reflects the reasons why students attend SFI:
"To provide students with the knowledge, skills, tools, and hands-on experience that are needed: to pursue a professional career; to follow their own creative path as filmmakers or screenwriters; to furnish a foundation in filmmaking for individual and collaborative work in the visual realm and the world of media."
Seattle Film Institute has offered community education classes in all areas of filmmaking since its founding in 1994. Since 2000, SFI has offered its full-time certificate in filmmaking under the auspices of the Washington State Workforce Training Coordinating Board. In 2010, the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board authorized SFI to grant a Master of Arts (MA) in Producing for Film and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Filmmaking.

SFI is centrally located in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle and is less than 10 minutes from downtown.
