Licenses and Approvals

Seattle Film Institute, Inc owns and operates Seattle Film Institute. The main campus—Seattle Film Institute is located in Seattle, WA and the branch campus, Carolina Film Institute, is located in Greenville, SC.


Seattle Film Institute is authorized by the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board and meets requirements and minimum educational standards established for degree granting institutions under the Degree-Granting Institutions Act. This authorization is subject to periodic review and authorizes Seattle Film Institute to offer the following degree programs: Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Filmmaking and Master of Arts (MA) in Producing for Film. Authorization by the HECB does not carry with it an endorsement by the board of the institution or its programs. Any person desiring information about requirements of the Act or applicability of those requirements to the institution may contact the HECB at P.O. Box 43430, Olympia, WA 98504-3430.


Seattle Film Institute is also licensed by the Washington State Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board (under Chapter 28C.10 RCW) for its non-degree certificate programs. Inquiries or complaints regarding this or any other private vocational school may be made to:

Seattle Film Institute is listed as an Eligible Training Provider enabling eligible students to apply for funding from a variety of State and Federal funding programs, including but not limited to Workforce Retraining and Trade Adjustment Act (TAA) funding.


Seattle Film Institute (main campus) is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students.


Carolina Film Institute complies with the provisions of the Nonpublic Postsecondary Institution License Act, Chapter 58 of Title 59, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, as amended, Regulations (Chapter 62), policies, and conditions for license of the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education. Carolina Film Institute is licensed by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, 1122 Lady Street, Suite 300, Columbia, SC 29201, Telephone (803) 737-2260. Licensure indicates only
that minimum standards have been met; it is not an endorsement or guarantee of quality. Licensure is not equivalent to or synonymous with accreditation by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.


The Seattle Film Institute and Carolina Film Institute have been approved for the training of veterans and eligible persons under the provisions of the GI Bill (Title 38, United States Code).
